Maidstone United Football Club’s plans to return to the county town in August 2012 received a welcome boost this week after Britelite signed up as main sponsor for the next two seasons.
The southeast’s largest independent supplier of windows, doors and conservatories has had a long association with the club, dating back to the 1980s, and the opportunity to be involved with the historic homecoming sealed the deal.
The new partnership, worth £40,000 over the next two seasons, was signed by Maidstone United chief executive Bill Williams and Britelite chairman John Baxter. It will see the Britelite logo on the club’s first team shirts during their final season groundsharing at Sittingbourne, and more importantly, when the team run out for the first time back in Maidstone.
Bill Williams said:
“It is fitting that Britelite will be associated with the club at this very exciting time. John Baxter and his fellow directors have been a friend of Maidstone United over many years and I am pleased that they will be a part of our return to the county town.
“The backing of Britelite is significant as it sends out an important message to the local business community. Our homecoming will put the town on the map and there will be plenty of opportunities for companies and organisations to raise their profile by getting involved with the club, the first team or one of our 25-plus community teams.”
John Baxter, who co-founded Britelite in 1970, said: “We’re delighted to be main sponsor for Maidstone at a particularly exciting time in the club’s development.
“We’ve been passionate supporters of the club’s campaign to ‘come home’ to Maidstone. It’s where they belong, and where we have been so successful for many years.”
Preliminary work on Maidstone United’s £1.6million new ground at James Whatman Way will begin in August with the installation of an electrical substation and perimeter fencing. Corporate fundraising continues but the directors are targeting August 2012 for the first game, which will be against Championship team Peterborough United.
The first team kit is being supplied by Europa Sports. The company, which has recently relocated to Aylesford, signed a two-year deal in May to be the club’s official kit and leisurewear supplier.
