With the worst of the wet weather out of the way, now’s the time to start looking at your house’s roofline products. This week we’ll look at how to keep on top of your guttering…
The gutters on your house direct water away from the house and drain it away with the rest of the storm water. Needless to say, having clear guttering is essential; silted up gutters, filled with dead leaves and all manner of other debris will slow (and sometimes completely stop) the flow of water away from the home.
If you feel confident and you have a ladder, now’s the time to take a look at the state of play. If not, perhaps request the help of a friend or family member, or a professional with the relevant accreditations for working at heights.
Hopefully, the only trouble you’ll have is a bit of debris sitting in the bottom of the guttering. If this is the case, you’ll be able to get away with a spring clean which should be relatively easy now we’re enjoying a dry spell.
Older gutters might not be able to withstand the added weight of all this water and can become a hazard if they begin to separate from the roof and start to fall off. If this is already happening to your gutters, it might be too late to make a quick repair and a new guttering system might be required.
